Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle in the state of Washington, United States. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m). Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It is the tallest glaciated peak in the continental US. Nelson Dellis climbed this peak back in 2008. It was his first taste of climbing. Joining an 8-day, Mt. McKinley (Denali) preparation course with Alpine Ascents guiding, it was a bold move on his part that would forever change his life. Because of the trip's memorable experiences and the memorable summit of Mt. Rainier, he became hooked on mountain climbing. It was this trip and peak that planted the seed that is what Climb for Memory is all about.
